AAO AWARDS ANNOUNCED
2009 FACULTY TEACHING FELLOWSHIPS
The AAO has identified the recruitment and retention of orthodontic faculty as one of its critical issues, and is allocating resources to help resolve this AAO critical issue through the development and adoption of an appropriate long-term strategy.
Through the AAO Task Force, the 2009 faculty teaching fellowships to 15 orthodontic faculty members who are educating orthodontic residents at universities in the United States and Canada. The Faculty Fellowship program is pivotal to AAO’s strategic response to the orthodontic faculty shortage.
Faculty Fellows must commit to one year of additional teaching for each year of funding when accepting awards.

Full-Time Faculty Teaching Fellowships
($60,000 to $90,000 over two or three years)

Other Task Force projects include:
Academy of Academic Leadership Sponsor Program ($4,950 plus a travel stipend)
- Four (4) sponsored full-time faculty members will participate in a professional development program designed to prepare dental practitioners and educators for successful academic careers.
Creation of a Distance Learning Repository
Mid-level and Senior Faculty Support
- A sub-committee has investigated support for mid-level and senior faculty members and submitted their report to the AAO Task Force for consideration.
