UPDATE: Council on Orthodontic Practice

The purpose of the Council on Orthodontic Practice (COOP) is to develop and conduct educational programs to assist orthodontists and their staff in improving patient care, management, and delivery systems and to develop and maintain resources to support members with orthodontic practice matters, including office design, procedures and transitions. COOP subcommittees have been working on several important initiatives to fulfill this mission.

The Practice Management Forms and Public Facing Brochures Subcommittee is in the process of reviewing and updating the AAO informed consent video. The following supplemental forms will be made available in Spanish:

  • Supplemental Informed Consent for Smile Direct Customers
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea Informed Consent
  • Orthognathic Surgery Supplemental Informed Consent
  • Consent for Radiologic Services and Acknowledgement of Scope of Services
  • Declines Treatment Supplemental Informed Consent
  • Impacted Teeth Supplemental Informed Consent
  • Periodontal Concerns Supplemental Informed Consent
  • Orthodontic Informed Consent During Bisphosphonate Treatment
  • Laser treatment Informed Consent
  • TADs Informed Consent
  • TAD (implant) Supported Expander Informed Consent
  • Risks and Limitations of Bonded Lingual Retainers and Consent to Utilize for Treatment

The Infrastructure and Technology Subcommittee continues to work with other AAO committees and staff to develop content for online education as upgrades to the existing web platform continues.

Webinars and Online Education Subcommittee is developing tags for existing webinars for easier search navigation functionality and continues to review ideas for topics and presenter selection. Periodically, Supplier Webinars are reviewed for content appropriateness.

The Sustainability Subcommittee is continuing marketing efforts to encourage members to “go green.” The website will include resources and information for recycling of disposables and plastic aligners. The Go Green Pledge encourages members to give paper bags to patients instead of plastic. “I took the Go Green Pledge” ribbons to be worn on name badges at the annual session will be considered.

COOP also actively promotes the AAO Micro-Volunteer Service initiative. Micro or virtual volunteer opportunities are small, short term and flexible. They provide a variety of opportunities for members to participate without a long-term commitment. It is a perfect way for new and younger members to get involved!
