Dr. Madelyn Koh
- A little background on you
I’m originally from Seattle, WA, and attended dental school at the University of Washington. I am currently an orthodontic resident at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Outside of orthodontics, I enjoy playing tennis, traveling, and exploring new restaurants. - What is your ortho passion?
What I love most about orthodontics is that we get to truly connect with patients by building their confidence in their smiles. The relationships we create throughout treatment are incredibly rewarding and remind me why I chose this specialty. - How did you first get involved with NESO?
I was inspired to get involved with NESO after seeing the positive experiences of my senior co-residents who were already active members. It is such a valuable experience to connect with mentors and peers and have a voice in the future of our profession. - Why do you think it’s important to get involved with AAO or NESO?
I think it’s important to get involved with AAO and NESO early on in residency because they give residents opportunities for leadership, advocacy, and professional growth. I currently serve as an AAO Resident Champion, which is another great way to get involved with the AAO as well as with NESO. Being involved also allows us to represent the perspectives of residents, contribute ideas that can improve orthodontic residency training, and build relationships that will continue throughout our careers. - Any advice for residents or new/early-career members.
Get involved early. Whether it’s attending meetings, volunteering, or taking on a small leadership role, you never know what opportunities or connections may come from it. It’s a great way to build your network, learn from others in the specialty, and give back to the orthodontic community. - Anything else you’d like to share (if applicable)!
I look forward to seeing everyone at the next NESO meeting this fall in Boston!
