Dr. Terry Sobler of New York City is your new NESO President. Terry grew up in Far Rockaway in Queens, attended Hofstra, University of Pittsburgh Dental School and University of Pennsylvania for orthodontics. He has been in practice in NYC since 1971, and was recently joined in practice by his son Ian. “The best days of the week are the days we share together as partners in the practice,” says Terry.
Terry has been involved in orthodontics outside of his office his whole professional career. He joined NESO in 1972, and helped run the NewConn Study Group and its biennial meeting, is an officer of CADABO and CERP. He was an instructor at Montefiore and followed George Cisneros to NYU. “You know,” says Terry, “being an instructor was one of the best things I ever did. I think I received more than I was able to give, and it helped me stay at the top of my game.” He is very proud of his 8 years serving as the NESO Council Representative to the AAO Council on Orthodontic Practice, his work on the AAO Office Design Manual, and all of the Practice Management Forms available from the AAO. He relates the phone call he received from his son towards the end of Ian’s time in dental school. “Dad, look at the AAO website, they have this really cool resource, the Office Design Manual.” Terry was pleased and proud to tell Ian, “look at the end of the manual and see who the author is,” (as Ian was unaware of all of the work his Dad had done).
