Leadership Update: Dr. Leon Klempner installed a NYSSO President

NYSSO officially welcomed Dr. Leon Klempner as its new president, making the beginning of a dynamic new chapter for the society. Dr. Klempner bring enthusiasm, vision, and a strong commitment to advancing both the profession and the organization.

“I am honored to lead the New York State Society of Orthodontists. I am passionate about our profession and look forward to working with the board and our members to continue to advance the art and science of orthodontics and advocate for the highest quality of care for our patient,” said Dr. Klempner.

Acknowledging the rapid evolution of orthodontics, he added, “Our specialty is evolving, and organizations like NYSSO play a critical role in ensuring orthodontists remain clinically excellent while navigating meaningful change. I look forward to working alongside our members to strengthen advocacy, foster mentorship, and support the next generation of orthodontic leaders.”

Dr. Klempner had outlined several strategic goals for his presidency, with a strong focus on education, engagement, and connection. These include developing an online webinar series for orthodontic resident and recent graduates that address real-world issues related to private practice. He also plans to establish one-on-on mentorship opportunities that pair new orthodontists with experienced practitioners, fostering professional growth and guidance.

Additional initiatives include creating online Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) to allow members to connect virtually around clinical, professional, and practice-related topics, as well as hosting virtual town halls to encourage open dialogue between NYSSO leadership and its membership. Dr. Klempner also remains committee to nurturing relationships between orthodontic and pediatric dental residents, particularly as combined ortho/pedo practices become more common, building on the success of NYSSO’s popular “Rave in the Cave” Halloween gathering.
