If you attended the NESO 2017 Annual Meeting in Boston last November, you may remember the clinical presentation on accelerated tooth movements from Dr. Sunil Wadhwa, the fantastic closing keynote from Dr. Junji Sugawara, the surprise visit from the musical Boston tea partiers at the Member Appreciation Reception, and maybe even the sunny central location of the venue near Boston’s Copley Square. For me, as NESO’s new Executive Director for only two months, it was my first opportunity to meet the NESO Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and of course Carrie Melita, Jeff Blasius and Michal Kleinlerer, from the Annual Meeting Planning Committee with whom I had frequent contact in the time leading up to the meeting. It also provided opportunity to learn more about NESO initiatives and vision, and most importantly experience first-hand the culture of our organization. As with many member associations, the heart of NESO is from its volunteer contributions. The Board, Executive and Planning Committees are clearly a passionate group of members who contribute a great deal of time and energy to the growth and progress of NESO, and their work is paying off.
The 2017 meeting drew almost 1200 attendees, with more than 300 Doctors, 500 Staff, and almost 200 Exhibitor registrants from 70 industry companies. Post-meeting survey responses showed almost three-quarters of attendees were greatly satisfied with the meeting and more than half of you return for more on an annual basis! These numbers are not surprising, given the relevant programming and appealing venues. However, the 2018 Planning Committee is working hard to bring you even more this year!
