The Special Committee on Inclusion and Engagement (SCIE) had a productive year. At the AAO Annual Session, SCIE hosted its second annual event, featuring Dr. Damon Tweedy, New York Times best-selling author and psychiatrist, speaking on wellness in healthcare. After evaluating several nominations, the committee selected Dr. Sunil Kapila as the recipient of the inaugural Inclusion and Engagement Award. The award ceremony is scheduled for the 2026 Annual Session in Orlando. A new toolkit was released to assist residency programs in organizing Virtual Open Houses, offering applicants remote insight into programs. Dr. June Harewood presented the toolkit at the Society for Orthodontic Educators meeting and began her second term as SCIE chair, representing NESO.
