Precision Dental Medicine and AI
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in precision dental medicine is rapidly transforming the field of dentistry, including orthodontics by shifting the focus from standardized treatment protocols to biologically tailored solutions. Through AI, advances in precision medicine-offers personalized patient diagnosis through genetic profiling, digital diagnostics, and patient-specific risk assessments-offers the ability to customize implant therapies, improving both long-term outcomes and patient satisfaction. Together, these approaches represent a paradigm shift toward more personalized, biologically integrated dental and orthodontic care.
Objectives
- Explain the foundational principles of artificial intelligence and precision dental medicine and describe how these technologies are transforming diagnosis, risk assessment, and treatment planning in dentistry with implications to orthodontics.
- Evaluate current and emerging AI-driven tools in clinical practice, including their applications in imaging analysis, treatment simulation, and patient-specific care, with attention to clinical accuracy, efficiency, and limitations.
- Apply precision dental medicine concepts to clinical decision-making by integrating patient-specific data (genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors) with AI-supported insights to optimize individualized orthodontic treatment outcomes.

Aligning for Success: In Sync from Ortho to Restorative
Successful outcomes in complex dental cases depend on how well orthodontic and restorative treatment are sequenced and coordinated. This case-based presentation uses real clinical examples to walk through treatment planning decisions, the methods used to achieve specific biomechanical and esthetic goals, and the sequencing strategies that keep multidisciplinary teams aligned. Emphasis is on practical decision-making — when to move teeth versus restore them, and how to anticipate restorative needs during orthodontic planning to avoid mid-treatment revisions. Attendees will leave with a clearer framework for efficient, predictable ortho-restorative care.
Objectives
- Identify key factors that determine treatment sequence.
- Describe orthodontic methods — space management, root positioning, occlusal setup — that support predictable restorative outcomes.
- Apply sequencing and communication strategies that coordinate ortho-restorative treatment

Complications in Orthodontics: Sleep Disordered Breathing
Obstructive sleep apnea is a chronic disorder with potentially severe systemic consequences if left untreated. Its long-term management frequently relies on CPAP therapy or oral appliances, which, despite their efficacy, might generate orthodontic side effects. This presentation will examine these complications in detail, orthodontic management alongside surgical strategies. Finally, the legal and ethical dimensions of treatment decisions and follow-up will be considered.
This session will shed some light on our current understanding of the role of orthodontics in pediatric OSA. The following clinically relevant scenarios will guide the presentation:
- How and who to target when screening for PedOSA in an orthodontic practice.
- Palatal expansion timing and its effects on PedOSA signs and symptoms
- Maxillary Complex and/or mandibular advancement timing and its effects on PedOSA signs and symptoms
- Orthodontic extractions and their effects on PedOSA signs and symptoms
Objectives
- To analyze the long-term orthodontic complications associated with CPAP therapy and oral appliance use in adult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients.
- To present strategies for managing and mitigating these complications, including orthodontic and surgical interventions.
- To examine the legal and ethical considerations related to treatment outcomes and patient consent in OSA management.
- Understand that we can play an essential role in screening for high-risk OSA patients and appropriately referring them
- Understand that many unanswered questions remain (orthodontic extractions and the ideal role and timing of palatal expansion, maxillary complex, and mandibular advancement in pediatric OSA)
- Understand that in some cases, OSA signs and symptoms may immediately improve, not change, or worsen after a craniofacial intervention

Dr. Jason Gladwell
Dr. Jason Gladwell
Dr. Jason Gladwell has founded and co-founded many different businesses over the past decade. He has a diverse portfolio, from orthodontics and dental practices to youth sports franchises and an airplane brokerage company. He has been fortunate to see many successes across them all. In 2019 he was nominated for and voted into the Triangle’s 40 under 40, recognizing success in business and innovation. He is a serial entrepreneur whose focus is always to give more to his partners than he takes from the relationship.
He attributes much of his success in business to his time at North Carolina State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Business Management and minor in Economics, Accounting, and Marketing. A “one-off” degree at the time, was just the start to achieving both of his goals of earning a business degree and pursuing a career in orthodontics. Jason would then move on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Then finally completed his formal education at Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned his certificate of specialty in orthodontics and his Master’s degree. Throughout his educational journey, Jason always graduated at the top of his class and was recognized throughout with numerous educational awards and recognitions.
Jason founded Gladwell Orthodontics in 2007, a period most would not consider to be ideal for starting any business. However, he took advantage of the shifting markets and economic downturn and used that as a chance to reinvent the practice of orthodontics. Over the next ten years, he would grow Gladwell Orthodontics to be the largest single orthodontic practice in the Southeast, before scaling and expanding locations to be one of the largest single-owner orthodontic portfolios in the country. He is currently one of the largest providers of Invisalign orthodontic treatment in the United States and globally. Jason is a master faculty member for Align Technology, and preferred partner for any new product or feature beta testing and new educational program development. In 2019 he created the Strategic Partners Program (SPP), which was designed to forever change the referral patterns and relationships between general dentists and orthodontists. In doing so, he solved a problem that had existed since the beginning of dental specialties.
Gladwell Practice Solutions (GPS) launched in 2025; the first and only fully Align endorsed education platform for the dentist, as well as their entire team. GPS aims to unlock the potential of every office through training dedicated to ensuring every doctor and office becomes a master of the business of dentistry, as they are the science of dentistry.
Despite his numerous successes in business, his proudest accomplishment comes from his best support system, Anna Gladwell, his wife of over 17 years, and their two children Olivia and Jason Jr. As markets and economies go up and down, their support is always there helping him continue forward to reach their goals as a family.

The Invisalign® Doctor Subscription Program: Unlocking Growth Hidden in Your Practice
Most practices treat the Invisalign® Doctor Subscription Program as a pricing mechanism. This session reframes it as a growth system. Dr. Jason Gladwell draws on his experience building one of the top Invisalign practices in the United States to show how simple, moderate, and relapse patients are not merely case types but distinct growth categories, each with its own clinical and commercial opportunity. Attendees will learn how to recognize the hidden demand already sitting inside the practice: braces-default patients, adults who will never accept brackets, pre-restorative alignment cases, post-treatment relapse, and retention patients who were dismissed and never brought back. The session moves through patient psychology at the first appointment, the team culture and language that transfer confidence (or hesitation) to the patient, a structured pricing framework that removes case-by-case guesswork, and the Vivera™ Retainer Subscription as a recurring revenue and patient-care model.
